The awardees were judged by the members themselves of PMSEA through a system similar to that of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the movie industry in the US.
PMSEA president Eng’r. Louie R. Sarmiento and Eng’r. Leo L. Jasareno, director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), handed the award to SEDC for its quarry operations in the hills of San Fernando, and to TCPI for its cement manufacturing facility at South Poblacion in the same town.
SEDC also earned the major award last year (2014) and got recognized for having achieved Zero Lost Time Accident in 2009 and 2010.
Pitched against all cement manufacturing plants in the country, TCPI had previously earned the major award in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and merits also in 2010 and 2012.
Campo, Gebilaguin and Avila cited management’s persistent support and involvement in the safety programs as championed no less by TCPI President and CEO Satoshi Asami and Takehito Oga, SEDC director and technical adviser.
They also dedicated the award to all TCPI and SEDC employees for their unwavering consciousness on safety and commitment to ensure that both companies operate without causing any harm on anyone.
PMSEA groups mining companies, quarries and cement plant operators, suppliers, service contractors, professional organizations and government agencies that advocate a national campaign for occupational safety and against health and environmental hazards of mining and its related operations.
Bestowed annually, the Safest Mines and Quarries Awards has the primary objective of creating greater consciousness, awareness, and elimination of occupational and environmental hazards in mining operations.
